For a new Spanish edition of The Communist Manifesto, the Spanish artist's work shows off striking, chromatically appropriate black-white-and-red illustrations that capture the message and sensibility of the Marx and Engels classic with brilliant conceptual and aesthetic expressiveness.

Cartography is almost like and art form that deserves a bit of recognition. Spanish artist Fernando Vicente seems to appreciate the art of cartography and appears to take it one step further. His “Atlas” series shows how he has illustrated on old maps through the method of painting which has kind of created a new form of cartography by transforming continents and countries into portraits, skulls and animals. And there does appear to be a metaphorical and symbolised theme behind the subject matters of the particular maps.
